Antique 1912 George V Sterling Silver Cream Jug

About the Item

An exceptional, fine and impressive, antique George V English sterling silver cream jug made by George Nathan & Ridley Hayes; an addition to our silver teaware collection. This exceptional antique George V sterling silver cream jug has a circular rounded form onto a circular knopped pedestal with a circular shaped spreading foot, in the traditional George III ewer style. The lower portion of this antique cream jug is embellished with impressive chased stylised nine pin rib decoration below an applied girdle. The plain upper portion of the body has an applied gadroon decorated border, in addition to a cast and applied figural mask encompassed with a shell border to the underside of the spout lip. The shaped rim of the body is embellished with an applied moulded border. This exceptional example of antique silverware is fitted with an impressive cast figural scrolling handle reflecting the aforementioned mask. The shaped knop and circular spreading foot are embellished with a band of gadroon ornamentation. Condition This antique cream jug is an exceptional gauge of silver, exceptional quality and in exceptional condition. The piece has been professionally polished and is in presentation condition. The cast, chased and applied decoration is very sharp. Full hallmarks struck to the surface of the body are all clear; the hallmarks are struck deeply due to the exceptional gauge of silver, however the second portion of the maker’s mark is partially struck due to the rounded surface. A fine and impressive pair of antique Victorian English sterling silver sparrow beak style creamers, boxed; an addition to our silver teaware collection. These impressive antique Victorian sterling silver cream jugs have a plain baluster sparrow beak style form onto a circular spreading foot. The body of each jug is embellished to one side with two impressive bright cut engraved crests, a stag's head erased and a thistle erect, leaved below the motto ‘Yvery’. The jugs are fitted with opposing scroll handles, each ornamented with a subtle plain thumb piece. These impressive antique cream jugs have sparrow beak style spouts. These cream jugs are fitted to the original hinged leatherette box with satin and velvet lined interior and push fit catch. The interior of the box bears the retailer’s mark ‘William Angus & Sons Silversmiths, 27 & 29 Lord Street, Liverpool’. The collaboration of the thistle crest and the motto ‘Yvery’ may be associated with the motto ‘Sub cruce candida’, under the fair cross. Condition These antique Victorian jugs...

A magnificent, fine and impressive, antique George V English sterling silver cream/water jug; an addition to our silver holloware collection. This magnificent antique George V sterling silver jug has a circular rounded form onto a circular pedestal foot. The upper portion of this antique cream jug is embellished with an impressive applied strapwork band, in addition to a large fluted design to the underside of the lip, all in the Empire style. This exceptional example of antique silverware is fitted with an impressive cast spiralling handle accented with an impressive figural mask design. The circular spreading foot is embellished with further Empire style, architectural decoration. Such examples in this medial size is a redeeming and unusual factor; this versatile jug could be considered to be a small water jug or large cream jug.
