About the Item

Herbert Krenchel designed rare 1950s vintage set of 3 Krenit flat dishes, 1.25 inches in height by 6.5 inches diameter, marketed by Torben Ørskov of Denmark. One of each – inside color white, lime green and tomato red outside matte black. The stamp on the bottom would sometimes rub off since the base is flat and the logo applied over the finish product. All stamps are missing, they should read H.KRENCHEL -DENMARK and logo. Condition: Very Good though the Red dish has some spotting and the White a small black mark. Black finish shows inherent wear, due to age and use, of the Krenit bowls. Please look at all images. Measurements: 6 1/2 inches diameter x 1 1/4 inches high Please view our other listings of Krenit Bowls and Salad Server Spoon & Fork Herbert Krenchel was a Danish industrial designer who became obessed with creating a very thin metal salad bowl after seeing the popularity, at the time, of Americans and Danes to serve large leafy green salads. Krenchel created a process where a very shiny and durable colored enamel could be applied to the inside of the bowl and keeping a matte black finish on the outside and the Krenit (1953-1964) salad bowl came to be. The original bowl was named C-bowl (12.5 cm/4.9 inches). A design firm founded in 1953 by Torben Ørskov was entrusted for the sales of the newly developed Krenit bowls. In 2007, the Normann Copenhagen company reintroduced the Krenit bowl but in Gold and real Silver with the iconic black matte finish on the outside.
