About the Item
Four piece coffee/tea service in solid brass designed by Tommi Parzinger for Dorlyn Silversmiths circa 1950, distributed by Vincent Lippe Co.
This is the earliest version with the distinctively ornate thistle finials on the fitted lids.
Set includes large and small lidded carafes, lidded sugar container and 12" diameter round tray.
All marked: Made by Dorlyn Silversmiths and a conjoined "RP" in which the "R" is reversed.
The 'R' here in the mark probably refers to Otto Rasmussen, a Dane who executed silver for Parzinger. (See pages 338-39, 'Modernism in American Silver - 20th Century Design" by Jewel Stern.

Parzinger (b. 1903 in Munich, Germany, died in U.S. 1981) was a prolific and versatile designer of furniture, fabrics, wallpapers, lighting fixtures, tableware, porcelain and many other items including handwrought silver and silverplate. In 1952-53 Parzinger designed a number of objects that were made in brass and silverplate for Dorlyn Silversmiths, 383 Lafayette Street, New York, New York. In the late 1950's production shifted to a division of Oneida.
