1976 Isle of Man Silver Proof Crown Commemorating the United States Bicentenary
Mounted in silver pendant.
In 1976, the Isle of Man minted a special silver-proof crown to honor the 200th Anniversary of American independence, known as the United States Bicentennial. Crafted from 0.925 fine silver, this commemorative coin showcases a reverse design featuring the image of George Washington. The esteemed Pobjoy Mint, situated in the Isle of Man, was responsible for its production, and a limited run of only 30,000 coins was issued.
Additionally, this coin serves a dual purpose, as it also commemorates Queen Elizabeth II's visit to the United States during the same period. During her visit, Queen Elizabeth II presented the United States with the Bicentennial Bell, a scaled-down version of the iconic Liberty Bell. Both of these historic bells were cast at the renowned Whitechapel Bell Foundry in London.
On the obverse side of the coin, you'll find a right-facing portrait of Queen Elizabeth II, skillfully rendered by the talented artist Arnold Machin.
