Aesthetic Movement Sterling Silver Fish Slice w/ Acid Etched Detail by Whiting

About the Item

This elegant and well adorned Sterling Silver Fish Slice W/Acid Etched & Hand Tooled Detailing is crafted by the Whiting Manufacturing Company and originates from the United States, Circa 1890. This piece features a minimal profile of elegant curving lines that form a beautiful silhouette with ample surface area to contain the stunning Asian Inspired acid etched and hand-tooled pattern highly characteristic of designs by the Whiting Manufacturing Company. Two beautiful Coy Fish exude a bold etherial presence, one positioned on the handle and the other on the surface of the blade, both surrounded with stylized waves and seaweed. The figure ground relationship is achieved through acid etching, where areas of the silver are covered and then acid is applied to evenly remove material and create well defined areas of relief. The design is then worked into by hand with grooved linework to show the overlap of various elements adding elegance and beauty to the larger forms. This elegant piece will style beautifully in a wide array of spaces and settings, from Classical to Art Deco and Mid-Century Modernist Interiors. In Excellent Vintage Condition. American, circa 1890 Dimensions: Height: 11.75" x Width: 2.5" x Depth: 1.25"
