American Edwardian Sterling Silver Porringer with Circus Animals

About the Item

Edwardian sterling silver porringer with circus motif. Made by William B. Kerr in Newark, ca 1910. Upward tapering sides and molded rim. Solid and waisted handle. Acid-etched procession with piggies, kitties, and doggies as well as elephants and lions in fancy dress. Monkey-supported mirror for engraving the initials of the cutest animal of all. Fully marked including maker’s and retailer’s (Bailey, Banks & Biddle) stamps, and no. 1482. Weight: 5.7 troy ounces.

    An exceptional, fine and impressive antique Charles II English sterling silver porringer; part of our collectable silverware collection. This exceptional antique Charles II sterling silver porringer has a circular rounded form onto a collet base. The surface of the porringer is embellished with an impressive chased hunting hound to one side and a stag to the other, all amidst large foliate designs and incorporating pinstruck swirl designs. This English silver porringer is fitted with two impressive cast, leaf decorated S-scroll handles with elevated figural shaped thumbpieces. Note: After surviving the Great Fire of London the records at the London Assay office were destroyed by fire in 1681; their catalogues and documentation began again in 1697.     An exceptional, fine and impressive antique William III English sterling silver porringer with cover; an addition to our 17th century silverware collection. This exceptional antique William III sterling silver porringer with cover has a plain rounded cylindrical form onto a circular spreading foot. The lower portion of the body is encircled with an exceptional band of chased alternating leaf designs. The body is further ornamented with the contemporary engraved initials 'WSM'. This cup retains the original hallmarked domed push fit cover embellished with a large chased stylized leaf motif in a swirl design. The cover is surmounted by an exceptional cast leaf decorated sterling silver bud style finial. This fine silver porringer with cover is fitted with two exceptional cast and applied S-scroll handles.
