Antique George III Sterling Silver Pair of Sauce Boats with Coat of Arms

About the Item

Antique George III sterling silver pair of sauce boats with coat of arms. Maker: George Smith (II) Made in London, 1767 Fully hallmarked. Pair of sauce boats are oval shaped, with leaf-capped scroll handles, shell feet and gadroon borders, each engraved with a crest, featuring double headed eagle with three dogs' head, each fully marked underneath. Dimensions - Length : 19 cm Width : 9 cm Height : 13 cm Weight: 716 grams ( in total ) George Smith II was apprenticed to John Eaton in 1753. On the same day he was transferred to Samuel Eaton John's uncle. George Smith II was made free on 14th January 1761. He registered his first mark as a small-worker on 21st November 1767. His mark has been found on many different items of silverware including sauceboats, tureens and sugar tongs. He registered several marks as a buckle-maker between 1775 and 1789. Thomas Hayter was one of his apprentices and they registered a mark together on 7th January 1792. George Smith II died on 1st May 1805. Condition: Minor wear from general usage, no damage, excellent overall condition, please see pictures for a better view of the condition of the item.
