Antique Victorian Sterling Silver Combination Whistle and Rattle

About the Item

An exceptional, fine and impressive, large antique Victorian sterling silver combination whistle and rattle; part of our diverse silverware collection. This exceptional antique Victorian sterling silver baby rattle and whistle has a bulbous shaped form. The panelled surface of the knopped body is plain and unembellished, with bead decorated borders to the central bulbous portion. The impressive antique silver rattle is fitted with four articulated, functional bells attached intermittently around the bulbous body. This large sterling silver rattle/whistle articulates and suspends from a circular ring loop style handpiece. The body of this Victorian baby rattle incorporates a whistle, accessible from the opposing end to the handle. Such large examples are becoming increasingly difficult to locate. Condition This antique Victorian baby rattle/whistle is an exceptional gauge of silver, exceptional quality and in exceptional condition. Full hallmarks struck to the surface of the rattle are all very clear.     An exceptional, fine and impressive, antique Victorian English sterling silver combination scent bottle / pill box / vinaigrette; an addition to our diverse collectable silverware collection. This exceptional antique Victorian sterling silver combination vinaigrette / pill box / scent bottle has an oval barrel shaped form. The body of the vessel is embellished with applied plain broad girdles replicating the details of the bilge and quarter hoops, which provide anchor points for the original link chain. The piece retains the original hallmarked screw fit cover to the scent bottle, conjoined to one of the aforementioned anchor points with a link chain. One end of the vessel is fitted with a hallmarked hinged cover, which when opened reveals the vinaigrette with the original hinged grille and gilt interior. The gilded grille is ornamented with a bright cut engraved and pierced decorated bordered scroll and leaf design. The hallmarked hinged cover to the opposing end forms a pill box and opens to reveal the original gilt interior; this versatile box could be used for a multitude of functions.
