Tall Silver & Guilloche Enamel Lidded Jar by Goldsmith's and Silversmith's Co.

About the Item

A stunning tall vanity / dressing table jar, probably used for either hatpins or a toothbrush, hence the little cork lining to the interior of the base. The glass is channel cut and then hand -engraved with the prettiest floral and foliate design with a ribbon and bow garlands to the sides. The top is made from solid English sterling silver with an engine turned decoration. the top with a stunning gold / taupe coloured guilloche enamel with a lovely shiny finish showcasing the design below. The interior of the lid is lavishly gilded and is where the full English hallmark can be found for London 1931 together with makers mark for the top-notch silversmith, Goldsmith's and Silversmith's Co.     A stunning antique English silver plated cocktail or drinks tray made by the top-notch London silversmith "Goldsmiths' and Silversmiths' Company at 112 Regent Street, London; signed on the understand. This stylish tray stands on four attractive feet and is decorated with a beautiful engraved design. Just back from our silversmith's workshop where it has been professionally cleaned and polished, restoring it to it's former glory. Dating to c.1920, it remains in superb condition measuring 14" x 9 1/2" x 1/2". In 1880 William Gibson and John Lawrence Langman acquired premises at 112, Regent Street, London and founded The Goldsmiths & Silversmiths Company. The firm produced a wide range of items from solid silver tableware and cutlery, jewellery and watches to electroplaters, trophies and surgical instruments. In 1898 the expanded and well-known firm became a limited company and added "Ltd" to its name. The abundant advertising activity of The Goldsmiths & Silversmiths Co. Ltd left numerous illustrations of their products. The company also became a distinguished dealer in diamonds and precious stones and a popular retailer of items by other silversmiths such as Harrison Brothers & Howson, William Comyns, Martin Hall & Co Ltd, W&G Sissons, among others. The company's artworks received acclaim at a number of international exhibitions from the 1880s through to the early 1900s.     An exceptional, fine and impressive antique George V English sterling silver and glass matchstriker; an addition to our ornamental collection. This exceptional antique George V sterling silver and glass matchstriker has a globular form to a circular shaped well. The surface of the glass body is embellished with a serrated texture which composes a match striker.
