Butler & McCarty Coin Silver Granville Teaspoons, set of six

About the Item

A super scarce set of six Coin silver teaspoons, made by Butler & McCarty or James P. Butler, Philadelphia, circa 1850-1862. In the Granville pattern, entirely and beautifully made by hand. The bowls are attached to a twisted stem handle terminating in a tear drop shape. The handle shows a shield engraved with the name Julia, written in script, against a deep diamond pattern etched ground. A quill-like engraving where the bowl meets the handle. Additional complex engraving on the handle. A rarely seen pattern … made even more desirable in a complete set of six. Coin silver is comprised of 900 parts silver and 100 parts copper. 5.75 in. L x 1.25 in. W x 1 in. H Weight: 3.289 Troy Ounces, total. Marked: COIN, with an animal head over a shield holding a star. Incredible condition, showing the expected light wear and unpolished patina.
