The fundamental components of this vintage service have been crafted by the Sheffield silversmiths Gee & Holmes in 1959; the components will have been crafted in the same year but due to the hallmarking system the items are struck with the date letters Q and R. The table and dessert knives, in addition to the fish service and carving service, are fitted with composite handles, embellished with the original stained initials 'A'; this initial reflects that engraved to the spoons, forks and ladles. The table and dessert knives are fitted with stainless steel blades bearing the mark 'Harrods Ld, G.H. Knightsbridge.S.W., Stainless'. This exceptional sterling silver English cutlery set is fitted to a veneered walnut lift up lid canteen box, with a velvet lined interior. The cover of the canteen is embellished with a cartouche, ornamented with the engraved initial 'A'. * "Straight" means all the pieces are made by the same maker in the same year.
