George III Mustard Pot Made in London in 1811 by Peter & William Bateman

About the Item

A VERY RARE GEORGE III MUSTARD POT MADE IN LONDON IN 1811 BY PETER & WILLIAM BATEMAN The Mustard Pot is of an unusual square form and stands on four ball feet. The base of the main body is decorated with reeding and the rim with gadrooning. The sides display a band of pierced roundels containing unusual engraved stylised foliate motifs. The front is engraved with a set of contemporary script initials. The domed cover displays a shell thumb piece and terminates in a stylised urn finial. The cover is also engraved with a wriggle work, and stylised foliate, band. The Mustard pot has a blue glass liner and is fully marked on the base and on the cover. This is very desirable for a Bateman silver collector, as it is an unusual design which nearly always was produced in the workshops of Peter & William Bateman. Peter was Hester Bateman's son and William her grandson. Length: 4.1 inches, 10.25 cm. Width: 2.5 inches, 6.25 cm. Height: 3.25 inches, 8.13 cm.
