Sterling Breadbasket

About the Item

We are happy to offer this lovely sterling silver breadbasket by Towle Silversmiths. It has a canoe-like shape which is very interesting. Unlike most breadbaskets that are rounded off at the ends, the ends come to a point. Truly a classic design, it has a subtle gadroon finish along the rim with a neoclassical medallion on the ends. In the center a hand engraved script monogram gives it that finishing touch.

    By Whiting Manufacturing Company
    Located in Brooklyn, NY
We are proud to offer this magnificent sterling silver breadbasket by the Whiting Manufacturing Company of New York, circa late 19th century. Grover Cleveland was the 24th President of the USA and there were only 43 states... Being that this breadbasket is approximately 130 years old, we decided to give it a full-makeover: taking out all the dents, dings and scratches and polishing it professionally. It looks as beautiful today as it did when it was manufactured and sold back then. We did not compromise its integrity, we kept the original hand-engraved monogram. It has a reticulated design around the sides with garlands and bows draping it. The rim is scalloped and around the center that same motif can be found. No detail was overlooked when designing this old-world treasure...
