About the Item

Direct from Private Chateau near Paris, A Truly Magnificent Pair of Original 950 Sterling Silver Louis XVI 5-Candle Candelabra by one of France's Premier Silversmiths "Tetard Frères", circa 1890s. The art of silversmithing has been a prominent facet of French craftsmanship for centuries, with Tetard Frères standing out as one of the most distinguished names in this esteemed tradition. Established in the late 19th century, Tetard Frères quickly rose to prominence, gaining royal patronage and international acclaim for their exquisite silver creations. Tetard Frères, founded in 1874 by Charles and Louis Tetard, emerged during a period of artistic resurgence in France known as the Belle Époque. This era, characterized by a flourishing of the arts and a newfound appreciation for craftsmanship, provided a fertile ground for the Tetard brothers to establish themselves as premier silversmiths. Drawing inspiration from the revival of historical styles and a fusion of various artistic movements, Tetard Frères became synonymous with exceptional craftsmanship and artistic innovation. Renowned for their sterling silver flatware, hollowware, and objets d'art, the Tetard atelier showcased a commitment to quality that set them apart in a competitive market. The precision in their execution, intricate detailing, and commitment to artistic excellence earned them accolades from both critics and patrons alike. The accolades earned by Tetard Frères reflected the atelier's commitment to excellence and innovation. Among the numerous awards bestowed upon them, the coveted Medaille d'Or (Gold Medal) at the Exposition Universelle in 1900 stood as a testament to their superior craftsmanship and artistic vision. This prestigious recognition catapulted Tetard Frères to international fame, attracting clients from various corners of the globe. The atelier's success continued with subsequent awards, including the Grand Prix at the 1904 St. Louis World's Fair. Such accolades not only solidified Tetard Frères' standing among the elite echelons of silversmiths but also underscored their influence in shaping the trajectory of French decorative arts during the Belle Époque. The pinnacle of Tetard Frères' success was perhaps their attainment of royal patronage. The atelier's creations found favor among European royalty, further cementing their reputation as purveyors of luxury and refinement. King Edward VII of England, known for his discerning taste, was among the distinguished patrons who commissioned pieces from Tetard Frères. The atelier's ability to cater to the refined tastes of royalty spoke volumes about their skill in translating regal visions into tangible, masterfully crafted silverware. In addition to British royalty, Tetard Frères also enjoyed patronage from the French court. The atelier's creations adorned the tables of both domestic and foreign dignitaries during state banquets, reinforcing their status as the preferred silversmiths of the aristocracy. The refined aesthetic and exceptional quality of Tetard Frères' silverware made them integral contributors to the visual splendor associated with grand diplomatic events of the time. Today, the masterpieces created by Tetard Frères serve as tangible reminders of an era when silversmithing reached its zenith, and the atelier's legacy continues to inspire contemporary artisans seeking to emulate the elegance and sophistication that define Tetard Frères' timeless creations. These two stunning 5-candle candelabra are magnificent examples of the quality and craftsmanship for which the firm was internationally known.
