Antique Turkish Silver Coffee Jug Circa 1910

About the Item

An exceptional, fine and impressive antique Turkish silver coffee jug; an addition to our silver teaware collection. This exceptional antique Turkish silver coffee jug has a baluster shaped form to a circular spreading foot. The surface of this antique coffee jug encompassed with a band of chased palmette designs flanked with interlacing circular motif decorated borders. The upper rim of the jug is encircled with applied bead decoration below a broad band of palmette ornamentation on a matte textured background. This antique coffee jug is fitted with a plain bulbous domed hinged hallmarked cover encircled with a band of applied bead decoration to the rim. The cover is surmounted with an exceptional hallmarked cast silver gilt finial modelled in the form of cockerel on a foliate terrain. The hinge to the cover is embellished with an exceptional cast silver scrolling bracket accented with a cockerel's head to the terminal. This antique coffee jug is fitted with the original cast hallmarked S scroll handle accented with a leaf decoration incorporating a simplified thumbpiece, in addition to a cockerel's head to each scrolling terminal. The hallmarked foot is encompassed with a chased leaf border reflecting that to the upper rim, in addition to two applied bands of bead decoration. Condition This antique coffee jug is an exceptional gauge of silver, exceptional quality for its type and in exceptional condition in keeping with age. The Turkish hallmarks struck to the surface of the body, rim of the cover, handle and spout are very clear; the hallmarks are struck deeply due to the exceptional gauge of silver. Reflections in photographs may detract from the true representation of this piece of antique silverware. The anterior surface of each fork and spoon handle features a pip to the terminal.
