About the Item

1960 midcentury dinner set consisting of 63 pieces. Elegant and modern design consistent with 1960s midcentury. The Versatile color and design allows for formal use as well as less formal. All pieces are porcelain and Marked Rosenthal. Excellent condition. Complimentary delivery in NYC and surrounding areas can be arranged. Color is very dark olive green border and white Pattern: Olive by Rosenthal - Continental Status: Discontinued, circa 1967 Set consists of the following: (8) Dinner plates - 10 inch (8) Salad plates - 8 inch (8) Footed cream soup bowls & saucers (8) Footed coffee cups & saucers (2) Oval serving platters - 12 inch (1) Round covered dish with lid - 8.5 inch (1) Round covered dish - 8.5 inch (1) Round bowl - 8.5 inch (1) Round bowl - 8 inch (2) Egg cups (1) Mini creamer (1) Sugar bowl sans lid (1) Gravy boat (1) Square covered butter dish Note - The entire Set of 63 pieces is in excellent condition with exception of minor chip in Gravy Boat and minor chip in Butter Dish (see photos) There is an additional Footed Cream Bowl not mentioned that will be included in purchase. 63 individual pieces as part of the set. Phillip Rosenthal (1855-1937) began business in 1884 by purchasing white ware from Hutschenreuther and selling designs, hand-painted by his wife Maria, door to door. In 1891, he established a factory in Asch, Bohemia and began production of white ware for use in his workshop. From 1897-1936, Rosenthal acquired factories in Kronach, Marktredwitz, Selb, Waldenburg, Sophienthal, and Waldershof. The popularity of the Maria White and Moss Rose patterns helped the business grow rapidly. By the time of WWII, Rosenthal operated 10 companies and employed over 5,000 people. When the war ended, Rosenthal’s son, Phillip, returned to Germany where he modernized out of date factories and reestablished lost markets. Phillip quickly rebuilt the business by reaching new markets interested in the modern shapes and artistry of his dinnerware. To this day, Rosenthal continues to work with leaders in fashion and design to create unique tabletop designs.
