Diaz-Costa Ceramic handpainted service, 20 pieces, circa 1960
About the Item
Ceramic dinner service colored drawings with gold and silver highlights, enameled decoration of fish and seabed, including dinner plates, small plates, soup plates, a salad bowl, and a tureen.
Service Composed as follows:
- 6 dinner plates, D 25 cm
- 6 deep plates, D 23 cm
- 6 dessert plate, D 22 cm
- 1 salad bowl, D 32cm x H 8,5 cm
- 1 soup tureen, D 29cm x H 19 cm
Signed on the back of the tureen "Ceramica Decorativa Diaz-Costa La Bisbal Girona". Monogram "CD" on the salad bowl.
Some of his works are on show at the Museum of Modern Art in Barcelona.
Eusebi Díaz Costa (1908-1964), an artist ahead of his time, who knew how to develop a creative idea that was for the time quite original and avant-garde: he was the first to understand that ceramics with popular and traditional roots could become, in addition to utilitarian and functional, an object with a clear decorative vocation, and knew how to adapt and renew the production to the new aesthetic requirements.
