An exceptional, fine and impressive antique Edwardian English sterling silver and mother of pearl fruit/dessert cutlery set for twelve persons - boxed; an addition to our dining silverware collection This exceptional antique Edwardian sterling silver and mother of pearl fruit/dessert cutlery set consists of twelve knives and twelve forks. The blades of the knives have a rounded, pointed form and the forks each have three tines/prongs. The surfaces of each piece are plain and unembellished; apart from the featured hallmarks. Each piece of this silver dessert set is fitted with the original and impressive, unusual baluster-style carved mother ofpearl handle. All the knives and forks retain the original sterling silver cylindrical ferrules. These silver and mother of pearl fruit knives and forks are fitted to the fine and impressive original hingedoaklift up lid box. The interior of the box retains the original velvet lining. The original presentation box features an inset panels to the interior rim displaying theretailer's mark 'Z. Barraclough & Sons, Silversmiths, Leeds'. This impressive canteen box is ornamented with a brass vacant shaped cartouche to the lid. This exceptional Edwardian service was crafted by James Henry & Herbert Barraclough of Z Barraclough & Sons. Such services with these exceptional and rare handles are becoming increasingly difficult to locate. Condition These antique silver and mother of pearl fruit knives and forks are an exceptional gauge of silver,exceptional quality and in exceptional condition. Each component has been professionally polished and is in presentation condition. The original box has been professionally polished by a cabinet maker and is in excellent presentationcondition. Full hallmarks struck to the reverse of each piece are all veryclear; the hallmarks are struck deeply due to the exceptional gauge of silver. Reflections in photographs may detract from the true representation of these fineexamples of antique cutlery. The blades of the knives have a rounded form and the forks each have four tines/prongs; the surface of each are plain and unembellished apart from the feature hallmarks. Each piece of this silver flatware service is fitted with the original hallmarked sterling silver handle, crafted in the Reed and Ribbon pattern; this pattern is also known as the Empire II pattern. Each handle is encompassed with a paralleling border of reed and tied ribbon decoration, terminating at the original sterling silver ferrules ornamented with plain embossed bands.
