Silver Filigree European Drinking Cup
About the Item
This 20th century European silver cup holder, set with a glass tumbler, boasts an exquisitely detailed filigree mount and scrolled handle. Relics of ancient filigree design have been found in Mesopotamia, dating the pressed metal technique as far back as 3,000 BC. As the knowledge and craftsmanship has spread and passed down through generations, a wide range of silver-plated products have developed from royal crowns and religious artifacts to, dishes, trays and other household items, made to bring luxury to any object.
This drinking cup mount has a stylized border with a botanical scroll work pattern atop a grid cut out. The glass cup perfectly fits into the silver casing with an etching of a grape motif, embellished with smooth, vine-like curves. We love this delicately crafted filigree mount for the opulence it adds to this everyday object.
Glass has a minor chip on the rim.
