Thomason Patent Corkscrew with Bone Handle c1810

Heading : Thomason Patent corkscrew Date : c1820 Period : Regency Origin : England Construction : Bronze, bone, bristle. Size : 18.5x11.7cm when clsoed Condition : Excellent - some very fine nicks and scratches . Wiork is sharp Restoration :None Weight : 248 grams The Thomason patent was the first major corkscrew patent of the 19th century lasting from 1802-1816. This example displays the patent badge. To open the bottle simply turn the handle anti anti-clockwise to draw up the worm into the barrel and then screw clockwise to drive the screw into the cork. Once the screw is fully in the cork continue turning clockwise at which point the larger reverse direction thread will be engaged drawing the cork from the bottle. Hey presto!
