William Mann English Sterling Silver Victorian Covered Dish from Mid-1850s

About the Item

William Mann, English sterling silver covered bowl or dish from the Victorian era ; the bowl is from 1846 and the lid is from 1858. This beautifully shaped covered bowl exhibits the Latin motto of John Rolle, a member of the House of Lords: "Nec Rege Nec Populo Sed Utroque". The bowl measures 10 1/8'' in diameter by 1 5/8'' in height while the lid measures 8 1/2'' in diameter by 4'' in height. Total weight is 36.9 troy ounces, and each piece bears hallmarks as shown.
