Vintage French Decorative Soup Tureen by Albert Thiry 'circa 1960s', Small

About the Item

Mid-century decorative soup tureen / dish by Albert Thiry (circa 1960s). A creamy white glaze forms the backdrop for Thiry's trademark blue thistle and foliage decoration. Both visually appealing and tactile, the piece would make an excellent addition to display in your home or workspace. The handle has a hanging hold on its underside. In good overall condition. About the Artist: Albert Thiry (1932-2009) was born in Nice, France. His family moved to Vallauris where he spent most of the school holidays in the potteries; in 1956 he was taken on as an assistant decorator with an opportunity to make his own pieces. Albert and his wife, Pyot, set up their own pottery in 1961. Their standard production, in Vallauris clay with added grog to emphasise rusticity, resulted in delightful pieces both highly elaborate and utilitarian.
