About

A brilliant Napoleon-III period French Renaissance Revival style brass wine cooler with heavy repousse decoration, circa 1870. This functional ice bucket or "rafraichissoir" was made to chill wine, and it will do the job with panache. The repousse decoration includes massive lion head ring handle holders at the sides, a great dragon sprouting acanthus leaves, and stylized foliage quatrefoil cartouches. Raised beading rings the top lip, incised and punched decorations of hatching and flowers grace other areas. The whole piece sits atop four wonderful clawed feet.
