19th Century Firedogs, Andirons, Plain Cast Iron, Brass Globe, 38 cm

About the Item

Pair of andirons in a plain style with a brass globe on top. France, 1880-1900. Solid iron in good condition according to its age. Firedogs are used as a holder for firewood in a fireplace. They are also known as a fire horse, andiron or chimney blocks. It usually consists of two parts and improves combustion by increasing the air supply to the fuel from below.
