Ancient Cypriot Terracotta Goddess, 7th Century BC

About

A Cypriot terracotta figure of a goddess or worshiper, dating to the Archaic Period, 7th-early 5th century BC. Standing on a flared base, with a long, cylindrical body. She wears a large headdress and raises her arms to the sky, her ears decorated with separately modeled round studs, her breasts and mouth also applied from individually made pieces of clay. Decorated in red and black paint.  A large, confidently made Cypriot votive, of a type normally found in fragments and / or overpainted. Provenance: From the collection of French scholar and diplomat, Auguste Dozon (1822 - 1890). With French cultural property passport.
