Tribal Style Songye Kifwebe Mask, D. R. Congo

About the Item

This graphic Songye Kifwebe mask has fine carved lines curved over the eyes and diagonal lines radiating from the nose and mouth in classic Kifwebe form. Mid-20th century mask from the Democratic Republic of Congo, central Africa. There are holes around rim for attachments and white pigment on eye lids and down the center of the forehead to the bridge of the nose. Sold with a custom metal stand; as based, it measures 19 inches high.

    The African Kuba Bwoom tribal mask is the oldest known mask, the Kuba bwoom mask.
