Haida-Style Totem Pole By Tsimshian Artist Moses Alexcee
About the Item
Moses Alexcee was a prolific Tsimshian maker from Prince Rupert who frequently carved for William Webber, the owner of the iconic Thunderbird Scenery Shop in Vancouver, BC. Alexcee often carved Tsimshian-style models of Haida totem poles. Note the watchmen on the top and interlocking figures – as well as the slight tapering to the pole. Moses Alexcee’s work can be found in a number of important collections, including the Museum of Anthropology at UBC and the Museum of Vancouver. This multi-figure pole is an excellent example of Alexcee’s work. 19"
