Amazing 19th Century Votive Copper Sea Vessel Model

About the Item

An amazing 19th century Votive copper sea vessel model We are proud to offer an amazing example of a 19th century French votive model, of a hand-crafted sea vessel. Scratch built with canvas sails, all copper sections, a repoussé decorative motif hull, working compass, bronze articulated gun, adjustable mast flag (this can be pulled to half or full mast), brass movable rudder, copper removeable stairs, adjustable wench and named Brouquier Germanuj across an etched copper plaque. All original paint still intact in sections and a wonderfully aged patination across all its surface. The bronze set of stairs that descend into the hull are wonderfully crafted. With 2 small copper lifeboats hanging of the side attached with brass chains. Two bronze anchors hang towards the front of the vessel which sits perfectly on a circular swirled solid lead base. This example can rotate 360 degrees on its stand, one of the best examples we have ever seen and a true piece of art. The more you look at this example the more you can spot the detail and craftsmanship, a sublime piece of nautical folk art. History: Votive ships or Church ships are displayed (often hung) in Churches, made generally by seaman and sailors after escaping a shipwreck or perilous nautical situation. Size in inches: H 33” x W 32” x D 6” Origin: France Period: 19th century Material: Copper, Canvas, lead, bronze, brass Condition: These items is completely solid in structure and form, an aged patina and fading of the painted surface has taken place, the copper has a Verdigris in sections as the metal is aged naturally. This item is over 100 years old and so elements of aging across this item reflect that. However, it is in particularly good condition without repairs and stand as it would have originally.
