About

Mid-16th century painted deal armorial panel, dated 1546. Inscribed and dated in German Gothic script 'Anno~Dominy 1546 - 16 Day of May' with twin armorial devices of Gules (red) painted half wheel and Gold half Fleur de Lys. Provenance: The Coats of Arms displayed appear to be of the Fürer von Haimendorf family of Nuremberg. See attached images of Furer von Haimendorf Arms. Ref: 'Siebmacher's Wappen-Buch'. Published in 1605 by Johann Ambrosius Siebmacher (1561 – 23 March 1611). Ambrosius Siebmacher was a German heraldic artist, copper plate engraver, etcher and publisher from Nuremberg. His works became an important source of heraldry of the German-speaking regions. The book represents the contemporary heraldry used during the final two centuries of the Holy Roman Empire, comfortably overlapping the date (1546) time of the Armorial panel.
