A Surreal Dream oil painting by Noel Dumolard

About the Item

This captivating artwork, titled "Surreal Dream," is an exquisite oil painting on canvas created by the French artist Noel Dumolard. It portrays a dreamlike scene, born from the artist's imagination. Three distinct elements emerge from this artistic composition. In the foreground, the enchanting face of a brunette young woman immediately catches the eye. Her hair appears to float gracefully in the water, creating a sense of fluidity and lightness. Water, a crucial element in this artwork, establishes a visual connection with the house in the background. The house, depicted in a surrealistic manner, seems inflated and distorted, as if it possesses a life of its own. Water escapes from its openings, forming a cascade of foam that spills through the door and window. This symbolic representation evokes an ongoing transformation, a passage from the interior to the exterior, from the intimate world to the unknown. A young man, a dandy elegantly dressed in white, is also present in the painting. With closed eyes, he sits in a wicker armchair, seemingly surrendering to the dreamlike atmosphere surrounding him. In his hand, he holds a pipe from which bubbles emerge, adding a touch of magic and whimsy to the scene. At his feet, red roses, symbols of passion and romance, gently float in the water, enhancing the contrast between reality and the fantastical realm. Water acts as a guiding thread, harmoniously connecting these three elements of the painting. It symbolizes the flow of life, the fluidity of emotions, and the interconnection of beings. It also represents a powerful force capable of transforming and bringing dreams and aspirations to life. Noel Dumolard's artwork transports us to a surreal and poetic universe, where reality intertwines with the imaginary. The meticulously painted details, rich colors, and subtle contrasts create an enchanting atmosphere that invites the viewer to dive into this dreamlike world and be carried away on their own inner journey. ****** Noël Dumolard (1925-1989) - A Visionary Painter and Master of Dreams Noël Dumolard, born in 1925, was a French painter, printmaker, lithographer, and illustrator. He was also renowned as a muralist and interior decorator. Hailing from a family of industrialists in Voiron, Dumolard spent his formative years in Grenoble. He was drawn to pursue an artistic career and obtained his diploma from the Grenoble School of Fine Arts before relocating to Paris during World War II. Dumolard began his painting career during the era of abstract art dominance, yet he never abandoned the distinctive style that characterized his work. His canvases, distinguished by a highly recognizable palette, were imbued with surreal and fantastical inspirations. Demonstrating remarkable technical mastery, he brought to life imaginative dreamscapes bursting with creativity. In addition to his personal paintings, Dumolard received numerous commissions for interior decoration in the 1950s. In 1972, he held his first solo exhibition at Jean-Claude Bellier, followed by a showcase at the Jacques Casanova Gallery in Paris in 1976. From then on, his works were regularly exhibited in Paris and the south of France. Dumolard's oeuvre can be divided into two distinct periods. His early paintings exuded vibrant colors and lush vegetation, reflecting the artist's cheerfulness and optimism. Subsequently, a darker yet more intense period emerged, characterized by a subdued palette and subjects marked by a sense of unease. Noël Dumolard was a multi-faceted artist. Under the pseudonym Léon Godinnet (an anagram of his mother's maiden name, Digonnet), he painted scenes of Paris during the Belle Époque, employing the style reminiscent of Galien-Laloue. His brush brought to life elegant figures, trotting horses, carriages, and double-decker buses, capturing the essence of the era. Dumolard's deep appreciation for landscapes and vibrant, luminous atmospheres contributed to his success as a decorative painter. He adorned the palace of Princess Azraf on the French Riviera, as well as the château of Jacques Fath. His panoramic wallpapers were featured in Nobilis catalogs. Furthermore, Dumolard ventured into furniture design, creating exquisite screens adorned with artistic motifs. His versatility as an artist knew no bounds. Noël Dumolard's legacy endures as a testament to his boundless creativity and unique artistic vision. His surreal and fantastical paintings continue to inspire and captivate audiences, offering glimpses into the realm of dreams and imagination. • Aboriginal Painting 'Tingari Dreaming' by Ronnie Tjampitjinpa (1943-)
    Located in NICE, FR
ABOUT THE WORK "RETINGARI DREAMING" The migration of the ancestors is depicted through interlocking squares in this artwork. These symbolic motifs narrate the journeys of the Tingari ancestors, who sculpted the terrains in the desert, infusing them with life. The subdued, warm tones evoke the ochre hues of the desert and the hills of Kintore, the community from which the artist hails. ABOUT RONNIE TJAMPITJINPA Ronnie Tjampitjinpa was born in 1943 in an almost uncharted region near Muyinga, Australia. He commenced painting only in the 1980s. Starting in 1970, he ardently advocated for Aboriginal rights, particularly for their return to their ancestral lands. Having played a significant political role, he chose to retire to his homeland in 2002, dedicating himself solely to painting. Often working in solitude, he isolates himself for several weeks in the desert to rejuvenate. Ronnie Tjampitjinpa's distinctive style is easily recognizable. The geometrical elements in his paintings captivate the viewer and reflect a territorial representation unique to Pintupi art, a region he traversed during his youth. His themes are diverse, encompassing Water Dreams, Fire Dreams, and a particular affinity for the Tingari cycles. Ronnie Tjampitjinpa stands as a prominent figure in contemporary Aboriginal art in Australia. He was listed as one of the "50 Most Collectable Australian Artists" by the Australian Art Collector Magazine in both 2001 and 2009. Awards received by the artist: 2004 - Finalist, 21st Telstra National Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander Art Award, Darwin (Australia) 1995 - Highly commended recognition at the 20th Annual Fremantle Print Award (Australia) 1988 - Alice Springs Art...
