About the Item
Unique piece, crossover between a Bijar and Sultanabad. Great allover design: Bijar rugs are often called the iron rugs of Persia. The Bijar is a heavy durable rug that has been very popular in the United States. Most Bijar carpets are woven by Kurds in the Gerus area. Sultanabad on the other hand are in the same region in NW Persia. It was the site of the principle Ziegler weavings in the late 19th century. Antique Serapi carpets are one of the most sought after rugs particularly in America and England for many years. Antique Serapi rugs are a major draw particularly in big city America. Serapi carpets were woven on the level of small workshop with multiple weavers working several years to complete each rug.
