1940s Tether Car Powered by Original Super Cyclone Engine

About the Item

This original 1940 Rexner Zipper Tether Car Racer with its streamlined design is in excellent condition. It is powered by a Super Cyclone .60 ignition engine which powers the car's rear wheels through spur gears. This car is complete with the original sheet aluminum top and pan, flywheel, coil, condenser, fuel tank and needle valve. The wheels turn easily as intended for racing. Rare and exceptional example of a 70 year old tether car. The tether car era began circa 1937 in California. Hobbyists took small gas-powered engines from their model airplanes and mounted them on a board with four wheels to make a powered car. A cable or string connected to the car was then attached to the center "tether pole" and the car was push-started and began racing around the pole. The Rexner Zipper tether car measures: 16.5" long (42cm) from front wheels to back of car 9.5" (24 cm) wheel bolt to wheel bolt 5" (13cm) high to top of car
