Early 20th Century English Crying Ventriloquist Dummy
He’s just a big cry-baby, An aged example of an early 20th century English crying ventriloquist dummy. This example has metal tear ducts either side of his glass eyes. The teeth are made from porcelain material or the like and the mouth opens and closes when the cord is pulled. When the head is removed as shown, you can see the metal water connections, with all its cords in place. Only the mouth works on this figure, however. The hands are carved from pine and the feet have an old pair of period leather shoes in place. The arms and legs are made from papier Mache and linen material. The body is made from cardboard and with a pine base.

Aged wear and tear across all the surfaces, Areas of worn surface include Damage and dents to the papier Mache areas, The linen is worn and torn across the shoulders and hip sections where the fabric has come loose (still firmly in place). Areas of painted touch ups across the face due to loss as shown. In very presentable condition considering its age and obvious use. With a lovely natural deep patina across all surfaces, firm in form and in one piece. A bit fragile and just a big cry-baby……
