Early 20th century jigger doll
We are proud to offer an early 20th century hand carved jigger doll. Made for a light pine wood, with hand carved detail across its face and lovely Chelsea boots. Jig dolls or les gigueux are old and established wooden or tin – plate “toys” for adults and children alike. Basically, they are dolls with loose limbs that step dance or “jig” on the end of a vibrating board or platform just like real step or clog dancers. Dance dolls have always been popular street entertainment for hundreds of years. From the 18th-19th century, In London they were frequently seen operated by street entertainers or buskers.
