Carved tribal door panel from the Tharu of Nepal, mid-20th century. Offered by Bruce Hughes. Wooden door panel from the Tharu people of Southern Nepal. Hewn with basic tools from a single plank of wood in a charmingly Primitive style. The top figure is a solder saluting Nepal's mountain and hill peoples have long been recruited as Gurkha soldiers, something they take great pride in. There are also pheasants, an elephant and rider, and a horse, playfully rendered. Measures: 14.5 inches wide x 66 inches tall.
