An African Shona Stone Sculpture titled "Sheltering Soul" by Norbert Shamuyarira (Zimbabwean, Born 1962), depicting an abstract polished Shona stone figure of a crouched and bowing human head with neck, torso and legs, the oversized right hand placed over his right leg and unpolished hair style. Signed: N. Sha. Circa: 1982
Born in 1962 in Chinhoyi District, Zimbabwe, Norbert Shamuyarira Began sculpting at age of seventeen under guidance of first generation Zimbabwe stone sculptor, Bernhard Takawira. Subsequently moved from Chitungwiza to Harare.
Norbert Shamuyarira's work emphasises the softness of human forms and demonstrates a respect for the inherent qualities of the stone he chooses to carve. Much of his work is informed by his personal history and is focused on the theme of the tragedy of human relationships.

The British Museum, London UK, has a sculpture titled "Bowing in Homage", carved in solid black serpentine. In the form of a bowing human head with elongated neck/torso and unpolished upright hairstyle. Incised with name of sculptor near base N. Sha. Museum Number: 2018,2007.5

Signed/cast on each pedestal: “VAL D’OSNE”. (Electrified). Paris, circa 1870-1880. Iron sculptures were preferred over bronze for outdoor park and building decorations for their long lasting resistance to all types of weather conditions. An identical pair of sculptures, also by Val d' Osne, are currently exhibited at the National Garden of Congress in Santiago, Chile. View Pages No. 87, 88, 89. Eugène Delaplanche (February 28, 1836 – January 10, 1891) was a French sculptor, born at Belleville (Seine). His "Messenger of Love" (1874), "Aurora" (1878), and the "Virgin of the Lillies" (1884), are in the Luxembourg.
