Of all the early and highly stylized lighting design periods, Art Deco remained popular through the 20th century and remains highly sought after and popular into the second decade of the 21st Century. During the 1930s Art Deco designs and lighting were exposed to the European public in the popular Odeon Cinema chain. In periods of urban growth after the turn of the century, architects were reaching for higher and higher peaks. Two of their tall examples were the Chrysler and Empire State buildings, whose stair-step effect became a bold Art Deco design that was also reflected in the lighting and hardware of the time.
