About the Item
This original 1960s 'P376' pendant lamp was designed by ace design duo Jørgen Kastholm and Preben Fabricius for Nordisk Solar Co.
Preben Fabricius trained as a carpenter in Copenhagen, before studying interior design under Finn Juhl, where he met the blacksmith Jørgen Kastholm. In 1961 Fabricius and Kastholm co-founded a studio, from which a number of furniture design classics later emerged. Their intention was to create furniture with a clear aesthetic form. Their ultimate goal was timelessness.
This lamp is in brushed silver aluminum with a white inner coating, and comprises of five ring-shaped aluminum shades, which decrease in size and are slightly curved towards the middle to ensure a glare-free light, whilst the cylinder at the top conceals the bulb mount. When the pendant is lit, the narrow spaces between the curved shades and the open bottom and top, creates a soft and warm glow.
There are a couple of marks here and there (please see images), as you’d expect to see on a period piece. The light has been professionally rewired to UK 240v spec.
