19C Dutch Baroque Style Antique Brass 6 Branch Chandelier

About the Item

PRESENTING A GORGEOUS 19C Dutch Baroque Style Antique Brass 6 Branch Chandelier. Late 19th Century, circa 1880-90 and made in Holland (Netherlands) from antique brass which gives it a more bronze patina over time. Made in the Dutch ‘Baroque Style’ of the 17th Century. Double opposing eagles on the top crown, fluted brass section below, leading to 6 curved arms/branches, each with dolphin/fish head moldings and circular cups. The base consists of a large globe with turned and pointed finial to the base. BEAUTIFUL naturally aged patina! Newly re-wired and working perfectly. Has it’s original ceiling cup. Can be lengthened by the simple addition of more chain links. NOTE: WHILST, WE ARE NOT SELLING THEM AS A ‘PAIR’, WE HAVE A MATCHING DUTCH BAROQUE STYLE 8 BRANCH CHANDELIER IN OUR INVENTORY. THE ‘PAIR’, ARE NOT IDENTICAL, BUT VERY CLOSE TO BEING SO, SAVE, THIS ONE IS A 6 BRANCH AND THE OTHER IS AN 8 BRANCH. BOTH HAVE THE REVERSE DOUBLE EAGLE CROWNS (WHICH ARE IDENTICAL) AND DOLPHIN/FISH DECORATED ARMS (WHICH ARE JUST SLIGHTLY DIFFERENT IN STYLE). IN OUR OPINION THESE WORK GREAT TOGETHER AS A PAIR AND HOPEFULLY A DISCERNING BUYER WILL AGREE! Provenance: Bought at Auction in Ireland. Dimensions: 31 inches Tall and 31 inches in diameter Condition: Good original condition. Some minor indents and blemishes to brass, but nothing significant. Re-wired.

  • 19C French Gilt Metal 12 Light Phoenix Chandelier with Swarovski Crystal
    Located in Dallas, TX
Presenting a stunning 19C French gilt metal 12 light phoenix chandelier with Swarovski crystal. This chandelier pre-dates the advent of electricity and originally would have held candles. Made in France circa 1860 it was converted to electrical use in the early 20th Century, circa 1920. We can deduce this from the holes that were drilled into the piece to convert it and to install the wiring. Very ‘Rococo’ in style it has 4 branches, each holding 3 lights (12 in total). The branches are scrolling and flowing vine leaves. The light sockets have tulip like holders which sit on and a large starburst shaped flower. The base section ends in a downward pointing flower. The central and top sections again have scrolling vine leaves, separated by a large starburst shaped flower. The crown is a large starburst shaped flower/leaf. What makes this chandelier truly unique are the 4 ‘Phoenix’ birds around the top of the light section, each with a flower petal underneath. They are unmistakeably ‘Phoenix’ birds ! The chandelier has approximately 50+ large Swarovski Crystal faceted pendant drops. We still get a ‘chuckle’ from the fact that this stunningly rare chandelier features the ‘Phoenix”. We acquired it from a high-end estate here in Dallas from a Mansion built in 1929. When we acquired it, it was in pieces, albeit the pieces were all there in a large box (save the crystal). All the wiring was gone and one branch was broken. We repaired the broken branch, re-wired it, re-assembled it and used gorgeous 1960’s Swarovski crystals to replace the missing originals ….. only then did we notice the birds ….. TRULY … ‘The Rise of the Phoenix from the Ashes’ !!!! LOL The crystal alone on this, is worth over $2k. The phoenix is an immortal bird associated with Greek mythology (with analogs in many cultures) that cyclically regenerates or is otherwise born again. Associated with the sun, a phoenix obtains new life by rising from the ashes of its predecessor. Some legends say it dies in a show of flames and combustion, others that it simply dies and decomposes before being born again. In the Motif-Index of Folk-Literature, a tool used by folklorists, the phoenix is classified as motif B32. The origin of the phoenix has been attributed to Ancient Egypt by Herodotus and later 19th-century scholars, but other scholars think the Egyptian texts may have been influenced by classical folklore. Over time the phoenix motif spread and gained a variety of new associations; Herodotus, Lucan, Pliny the Elder, Pope Clement I, Lactantius, Ovid, and Isidore of Seville are among those who have contributed to the retelling and transmission of the phoenix motif. Over time, extending beyond its origins, the phoenix could variously “symbolize renewal in general as well as the sun, time, the Empire, metempsychosis, consecration, resurrection, life in the heavenly Paradise, Christ, Mary, virginity, the exceptional man, and certain aspects of Christian life”. Some scholars have claimed that the poem De ave phoenice may present the mythological phoenix motif as a symbol of Christ’s resurrection...

  • 19C French Empire Style Complete Bedroom Set - Outstanding
    By François Linke
    Located in Dallas, TX
PRESENTING AN ABSOLUTELY OUTSTANDING 19C French Empire Style Style Complete Bedroom Suite/Set. HIGHLY, IMPORTANT AND UNIQUE Empire Style Bedroom Suite or Set, in the Manner of Francois Linke (or similarly important Parisienne maker), from circa 1880. The Suite/Set is almost completely original, save the bed, which was originally twin size, but professionally commissioned to be customized and converted into a Euro King Size for modern practicality. The quality of the conversion matches the quality of the suite/set. All pieces have ormolu gilt mounted fittings; beautiful patina, beautiful parquetry; beautiful carrara marble tops, simply stunning! About 10 years ago, I saw the ‘identical twin’ of the Commode in an Antique Store on Central Park in New York, however it had a less desirable green marble top (IMHO), and they were looking for 30k USD for the Commode, on its OWN! This Suite/Set is SO GOOD that it is the main exhibit in our rear Showroom. Not marked but under the marble top of the commode there are 2 signatures in pencil (1) M. Le Youters (?) and (2) M. Daneels. You will NOT find another complete suite/set like this ANYWHERE! AS A BONUS: We have curated and sourced (recently) a Pair of Monumental French Empire Wall Sconces which are a ‘PERFECT’ match for this bedroom set! (See pics) These sconces are being sold separately BUT they really COMPLETE the entire bedroom! The Suite/Set includes: European King Size Bed (Headboard, Baseboard, side panels and central support bracket). 2 Matching Bedside...

  • 19C Irish Georgian Style Secretary Bookcase
    Located in Dallas, TX
PRESENTING a STUNNING 19C Irish Georgian Style Secretary Bookcase. From circa 1850-60 and most definitely, “IRISH”. Made of gorgeous flamed Cuban mahogany which would have been imported from the British Colonies at the end of the 18th Century and early 19th Century. This piece of is of IMPRESSIVE PROPORTIONS ….. it is a real STATEMENT piece and EXTREMELY HIGH QUALITY ! It has a very ‘Regency Style’ pelmet or crown with egg and dart moldings under a very straight line crown. The top section consists of a 4 door bookcase, each with 3 shelving areas. It appears to retain it’s original glass, but it could likewise have been replaced at some time during it’s long life, as it is very rare to find pieces that have not suffered breakages over 150+ years. Each bookcase door still retains the original moldings to the front with a star shape above and below a central circular viewing panel. Each section is separated by a carved and fluted roman column/pillar. The bookcase section rests on top of the base, which consists of a beautiful central secretaire desk accessed by drop down front with working lock and key and rests on 2 pull out rests on either side. The secretary portion has a central tabernacle, with an inlaid oval satinwood medallion above another scallop shell drawer. It has 6 smaller drawers and 8 cubbies. The 2 pillars on either side of the central tabernacle are secret drawers and pull out. The curved crowns above the cubbies on either side are likewise secret drawers and pull out. Either side of the secretary there are 2 drawers (4 total) with a press or cupboard underneath. Under the secretary there are 4 large central drawers. The brasses and hardware are all original to the piece (save 2 extra hinges that have been attached to the drop down secretary to give it more support and stability. Again, each section is separated by a turned and fluted column/pillar which replicates the 2 side pillars to the central tabernacle of the secretary. The piece sits on 8 curved feet. This was an extremely high quality piece when made. This is also supported by the fact that the secondary woods are also mahogany and not pine or oak for slightly lesser quality pieces of the era. This piece is specifically identifiable as an Irish Georgian Style piece by virtue of the scallop shell moldings on the base side presses (see photos). Irish Georgian furniture...
