19th Century Electric Model Dutch Brass Wall Chandelier with 1 Light H31xW28

About the Item

Born to a prominent Friesian family in 1612, Saskia Uylenburgh married the acclaimed Dutch painter Rembrandt van Rijn in 1634. Their loving union inspired some of Rembrandt’s most renowned works, as Saskia often posed as his muse. A steadfast partner, she handled the couple’s finances and in 1635 jointly drafted her will with Rembrandt while pregnant with their first child. Saskia brought grace and wisdom to their relationship, evident in the ethereal beauty Rembrandt captured in portraits of his wife that stand today as 17th century masterpieces, immortalizing her spirit and their bond. With its single gracefully arching arm, the 19th century Saskia 474 sconce brings elegance to walls with a subtle silhouette. At just 31cm high and 28cm wide, this petite brass fixture maintains a refined presence. Intricate curling metalwork borders the circular frame, honoring ornate detailing of the era. Though designed centuries ago, this hollow brass wall light is modernly wired, bathing spaces in a warm ambient glow. An ideal accent alongside Dutch chandeliers like the Rembrandt and Rijksmuseum, the golden-hued Saskia 474 sconce pay tribute to Holland's treasured metalcraft history. Original historical moulds from the era are utilised to create the brass components. Additionally, casting is still done the old-fashioned way in a greasy type of sand called Brussels’ soil. After the crown has been varnished, skilled artisans assemble the components. Electric crowns have bent hollow brass tubes for the arms. The arms and curls are soldered together. While the crowns are being put together, the electrical wiring and lighting components are covertly inserted. Brink & van Keulen, a family-owned business founded in 1946, upholds the art of casting by producing the highest calibre brass chandeliers. Chandeliers by Brink and van Keulen can be found in a number of prestigious churches and monumental buildings in the Netherlands and other parts of the world. Through the transmission of knowledge through many generations, Brink & van Keulen has substantially aided in the preservation of the Dutch yellow casting craft. The business is the sole manufacturer of chandeliers using original casting moulds from the 17th century in all of Europe.
