19th Century Louis XVI Style Ormolu Cherub Chandelier After Pierre Gouthiere
About the Item
A superb quality French, 19th century Louis XVI style ormolu figural six-light whimsical chandelier with figures of cherubs, after the model by Pierre Gouthiere in the cabinet dore´ for Marie-Antoinette at the royal palace of Versailles. The finely chased elaborate and ornate gilt bronze body with scrolling arms surmounted with acanthus and rosettes issuing from the center fluted stem, decorated with three seated cherubs playing trumpets, below a classical burning torch, all suspended with three ornate gilt bronze chains, electrified and fitted with recent frosted glass flame shades, circa Paris, 1870-1880.
Note: The original model of this chandelier by Pierre Gouthiere is illustrated by H. Ottomeyer et al., p. 238, fig. 4.4.1. The design for the chandelier is also illustrated in the aforementioned literature, p. 238, fig. 4.4.2., which is now in the Musee´ des Arts De´coratifs.
Measures: height: 41 1/4 inches (104.8 cm).

- Condition:Additions or alterations made to the original: Electrified. The frosted glass shades are later. Wear consistent with age and use. Minor fading. Overall condition is very good, mercury gilt with minor rubbing on the gilt. Wired for electricity. Prior to installation the entire electrical wiring system and structure must be inspected, verified and approved by a licensed electrical contractor.
