Art Deco five sided frosted art glass + nickeled iron chandelier by Schneider

About the Item

French Modern unusually shaped polished nickel hand hammered iron, pentagonal chandelier showcasing five elongated, tubular, roll shaped frosted art glass insets, each set into a triangular pattered geometric frame surround. Signed Schneider, France. The more common models have even number of panels (4 or six panels). This model with five panels is more unusual. At its center sits a large and deep coupe, matching the surrounding geometric design. This central bowl is adorned with intricate decorative border motifs, featuring delicate leaf and floral patterns that enhance its overall elegance. The chandelier hangs gracefully from a stem supported by five tubular poles. Its top is capped by an original matching hexagonal canopy, which complements the overall geometric theme. This lighting fixture is a testament to artistry and craftsmanship, emanating a radiant and luxurious ambiance in any space it graces. Industrial design, Italian modern, Scandinavian, Mid-Century, contemporary, luster, modern, lamp, fixture, lantern, more lighting, silver. About Schneider.......................................... Charles Schneider was born in Chateau-Thierry, near Paris, on 23rd February 1881. At an early age he moved with his family to Nancy, the artistic center of France. His brother, Ernest Schneider (1877-1937), started working for Daum in 1903 as clerk. Charles had started an artistic career and was already active at Daum since 1898. He performed his practical training in the engraving and decorating workshop, but he also took drawing and modelling lessons with Henri Berge. During the late 1920's to 1930's, Degue copied Schneider’s Art Deco works. He not only imitated, but also managed to take on several glassworkers of Schneider as well. One can see imitation as the highest form of flattery, but Schneider thought else wise and thus sued Degue. They became embroiled in 6 years of litigation. Charles Schneider eventually won the lawsuit, but the lengthily law process (1926-1932), cost both firms a lot of money. The case was finally settled out of court in 1932 but with massive financial consequences for all concerned. Petitot produced fixtures in bronze with glass shades from the best French glass manufacturers which included Schneider. Charles Schneider was known for the quality and design of his art glass which has made his name world-renowned.
