About the Item
A fantastic pendant light manufactured in Austria in 1930s.
The fixture is made of brass with six curved arms with cream-colored pleated fabric shades.
The brass parts have patina, minor wear and a warm aged hue. The lamp shades are renewed.
The light has the original ceramic sockets. It is ready to use. It has six sockets for medium or standard Edison screw base bulbs. It is possible to install this fixture in all countries (US, UK, Europe, Asia, Canada,) although it may be necessary to purchase different light bulbs (e.g. LED or filament) suitable to local electricity.
The brass US canopy is new and can be replaced with an European one.
The height of the body without cord is ca. 11.8 inch (30 cm). The current overall drop is ca. 31.5 inch (80 cm).
It can be customized to any length for free of charge.
The light is attributed to Austrian light maker J.T. Kalmar.
In the mid-1920s, Josef Frank and Oskar Wlach founded the furnishing company "Haus & Garten" which was sold to Julius Theodor Kalmar after Josef Frank emigrated to Sweden before the second world war.
Founded in Vienna by Julius August Kalmar in 1881, Kalmar first specialized in the production of handcrafted objects of cast bronze.
After the turn of the century, Julius Theodor Kalmar, son of the original founder, studied under the renowned Austrian architect and designer Josef Hoffmann.
In the following years the company realized modern lighting concepts and designs. Kalmar worked together with the Austrian Werkbund and the most important Austrian architects like Josef Frank, Oskar Wlach, Oswald Haerdtl, Clemens Holzmeister, Ernst Plischke, and Oskar Strnad.
Kalmar used traditional materials like glass, bronze, brass, and wood. His designs, including this chandelier, lacked ornament but favoured instead a purist aesthetics. Kalmar produced lightings of great craftsmanship, high quality workmanship, and timeliess design.
