About the Item

The Bushwick Lantern continues the MMD tradition of creating new lighting forms out of familiar shapes. Here, four simple frames (Either all black steel or with black steel horizontal and brass vertical frames) are discreetly connected together to hold in place a double-curtain wall of crystal prisms, all of which create a spectacular and memorable modern pendant. The two alternating rows of crystal create a cube of light and refraction, throwing off rainbows all-over the room. The Bushwick Lantern comes in two styles: The Standard Version and the Smart Version. The Standard Version comes with two incandescent refrigerator bulbs. and works like a standard pendant light. The Smart Version is designed to house and power an Amazon Echo Dot plus two advanced LIFX smart bulbs. It is designed to be the seat of your smart home. Housing smart devices in a pendant light offers several advantages: - It places the microphone of the Echo Dot in the middle of the room above the voices (in the same position as an audio Boom would be in a television or film production), which is the optimal position to pick up voice commands. - It hides the wiring for the Echo Dot, freeing up plugs and table space. - The Echo Dot uses colored LED lights while it is processing commands and because The Bushwick Lantern Smart Version houses the Dot behind a cube of optically-pure crystal, that LED display is made infinitely more attractive and interesting. - The Smart Version comes with smart LIFX light bulbs which can be controlled by voice with the Echo Dot. You can therefore turn the Bushwick Lantern on and off, DIM it, and turn it different colors, all with just voice commands. With your smart phone you can program the Smart Version to come on and off at specific times, or follow a specific color pattern throughout the day.
