About the Item
An extremely elegant and high quality French 19th century Louis XVI st. ormolu four arm chandelier signed F. BARBEDIENNE PARIS. The chandelier is centered by a beautiful berried foliate inverted bottom finial below lovely laurel leaves. The striking central fut displays richly chased maiden faces amidst swaging floral garlands from where the arms branch out. Each elegantly scrolled arm displays a rinceaux shape adorned with large acanthus leaves. Finely detailed berries and outstanding twisted designs lead up each arm to the foliate candle cups. The four supports lead upwards from intricately detailed floral elements at the top of each arm and display additional twisted designs. Centering the supports is a most impressive and finely detailed finial with a lovely array of fruit and foliate branches. The pierced top crown also displays fine foliate designs and a beautiful inverted finial.
