French Art Deco Yellow Pendant Light by G.V. de Croismare, Muller Frères, 1920s

About the Item

French Art Deco yellow Pâte de Verre glass pendant light fixture by G.V. de Croismare, Muller Frères Luneville from circa the 1920s. This pendant light is a stunning piece from the French Art Deco period. The bowl is made of yellow 'Pâte de Verre' glass with light violet and red shades. It is signed 'G.V. de Croismare' by Muller Freres and features ornate bronze chains and a canopy with stylized flowers and Art Deco-style mounts. It is a beautiful addition to any space. One new socket for E27 (E26) size bulb. Dimensions: Diameter 35 cm / 13.78 in, height 60 cm / 23.5 in. In good condition with slight signs of aging and use. The light fixture is in complete working order, but as with all vintage or antique lighting, we would always suggest it is installed by a qualified electrician. In 1919 Muller Freres founded Les Grandes Verreries et Cristalleries de Croismare. Glass made in Croismare is signed "G.V. de Croismare". The beautiful multicolored glass bowl was made in the “Pâte de Verre” technique, used in the production of multicolored glass: a cold-formed paste of glass powder and dyes is filled in a refractory mold and then fired in a muffle furnace, wherein the glass melts into the desired shape. To achieve polychrome color effects, the process is repeated with other colors. The production of Pâte de Verre is a slow process that requires a lot of manual skill to avoid bubbles, cloudiness, and cracks in the cooling process. The technique allows for accurate shapes and accurate color gradations in the workpiece, unlike any other glass processing technique. The technique was already known in ancient Rome and Egypt. Especially in the Art Nouveau period, and later in the Art Deco era, she found artistic use again in works by French glass artists such as Gabriel Argy-Rousseau, Henry Cros, Albert Dammouse, François Décorchemont, Amalric Walter, Émile Gallé and George Despret. The Crystal Daum, a French manufacturer of commercial glassware, produced numerous works from Pâte de Verre.
