Grain Drum 14 White & Aluminum by Ravenhill Studio
About the Item
What was meant as a warning from our fabricator in L.A. – that occasionally a trace of wood grain from the tool used in metal spinning could be seen in finished parts – became the focal point of our Grain Family.
Using a method similar to how drums are made, we cut one long board of maple into pie shaped wedges to create the hollow mold for our larger Grain Drums.
The bookmatched grain you see when looking at the shade in profile is the result of the one, continuous board glued into a six-sided circle and cut down to make the spinning tool. It also features a spun bottom reflector, which conceals the candelabra base bulbs. The overall effect from below is like standing under an eclipse.
A versatile size and typology, the Grain Drum is available in 14”, 25”, and 33” sizes with a standard length 6' electrical cloth-covered drop.
