Henning Koppel Chrome Bubi Lights, 1972

About the Item

A pair of one of Henning Koppel's most iconic designs, the Bubi light. Two shiny chrome and matte white acrylic Bubi lamps with striking green cord designed in 1972 by Henning Koppel (1918-1981). The sleek circular organic modern shape was inspired by Koppel's grandchild playing with a bucket on her head. The symmetrical lamp is versatile and can be used as a pendant or as a table lamp. The piece was reproduced by Pandul in 2000 - the lamps in this listing are from the reproduction in the beginning of the 21th century. Classic organic Danish Modern pieces in beautiful vintage condition. Denmark, 1972/2000. The Copenhagen born designer and sculptor Henning Koppel is known for his lifelong work for Georg Jensen where his sculptural functional designs in sterling silver - like the Swan (1956) and the large Fish Dish (1954) - has made him a renowned designer worldwide. He mostly worked with silver and steel, but also designed porcelain pieces for Bing & Grøndahl, wrist watches and lamps for Louis Poulsen & Co., glassware for Holmegaard Glasværk and jewellery for Svenskt Tenn. He is represented at art industry museums worldwide, and received numerous design awards before he died in 1981 - still working for Georg Jensen.
