About the Item

French Art Deco modernist opalescent pendant chandelier by Jean Gauthier, (Paris), France, circa 1925. Large thick opalescent glass shade hung at its silver plated brass frame. Same period as Lalique, Sabino, Etling. Measures: Height 20.5" (52cm), width 16" (40.5cm). Some slight traces of age on the metal. Delivered wired for your country (US, UK, EU, China, etc). LED can be used. Jean Gauthier had his first workshop at 12-14 rue Jean Robert in Paris and later expended with factories in the town of E zanville. In the early days just after the First World War Gauthier made cameo shades that were sometimes signed Gauthier. The plants in E zanville were opened for the production of Art Deco glassware in moulded-pressed glass. Many Art Deco models are unsigned. Some are signed EJG for Establishments Jean Gauthier. Others are signed J. Robert pseudonym for J. Gauthier based on the street name of the first workshop. In the 1930s Gauthier started a line of shades done in opalescent semi-crystal, mainly cups. Some models are unsigned. Others are signed E zan France, signature for Gauthier based on the city of the second plant.
