About the Item

Massive crystal chandelier by Kinkeldey, circa 1970s, three-tier chrome chandelier with 42 heavy rectangular faceted crystal prisms which beautifully refract light. Both imposing and beautiful, suits a wide variety of decors and is well suited in size for a grand statement. Six candelabra and one medium bulb. runs on voltage from 110 till 240 volts Cable and rod can be reduced in height. With the 1960s came the accentuated use of glass elements and vintage Italian lights manufacturing companies like Venini and Mazzega had a strong influence on the modernization of lighting design during the 1960’s. Influenced by the craze for the use of raw material, experimentation in art and culture and the revolutionary hippie movements, lights incorporated elements of modernist design which let the material and colours speak for itself, a trend which would be soon followed by the like of Orrefors, Kalmar and Limburg. Kinkeldey is German manufacturer of high-end lighting fixtures. The company attracted international attention when they won the prestigious IF Design Award in 1969 with a chandelier fitted with prism cut crystals. During the 1970s Kinkeldey produced a number of variations on this award winning model, like the one offered here. Though these lamps show the same quality as fixtures of companies like Bakalowits, Lobmeyer and Palwa, the Kinkeldey models tend to be more modern in their design approach.
